About HHart Therapy at the Bakehouse

About me ........

I know that reaching out for therapy can feel like one of the hardest steps to take. It can feel daunting talking to someone you've never met about parts of your life that you've perhaps never shared with anyone before.

My hope is that from the moment you walk through my door, or join me online, you'll feel welcomed, accepted and able to simply be yourself.

I don't believe people need fixing. I believe that each of us carries our own story, our own struggles and our own strengths, even if we've lost sight of them for a while. Sometimes life leaves us feeling stuck, overwhelmed or disconnected from who we are, and having someone alongside us can make all the difference.

My role isn't to tell you what to do or have all the answers. Instead, I'll walk alongside you with warmth, honesty and compassion, offering a safe, confidential space where you can explore whatever is on your mind without fear of judgement.  We can explore ways to help you reach your goals.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent many years working in demanding professional roles, supporting people through difficult situations and life's unexpected challenges.  Those experiences taught me the importance of listening carefully, being genuine and meeting people where they are. Training as a therapist has deepened that understanding and reinforced my belief that healing happens through connection, trust and feeling truly heard.

Every person who comes to therapy is unique. Whether you're living with anxiety, low mood, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, loss, stress, low self-esteem or simply have a sense that life doesn't feel quite right, we'll work together at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

I won't rush you, judge you or expect you to be anywhere other than where you are today.

The name HHart Therapy reflects something that matters deeply to me. Therapy isn't about changing who you are; it's about creating space to reconnect with yourself, to understand your experiences and to discover that you already hold many of the answers within you.

I feel privileged every time someone trusts me with their story. My aim is to provide a calm, welcoming space where you feel listened to, supported and accepted exactly as you are.

If you're wondering whether therapy is right for you, we can begin with a relaxed conversation. There's no pressure or expectation—just an opportunity to meet, ask questions and see whether working together feels like the right fit.

Sometimes the bravest thing we do is simply begin.

Your First Session

Taking the first step into therapy can feel both hopeful and daunting. It's completely natural to feel nervous, unsure or even wonder if counselling is the right choice for you.

There is no expectation for you to arrive knowing exactly what to say. Many people tell me they worry they'll "say the wrong thing" or won't know where to begin. Please don't worry—there is no right or wrong way to start.

Our first session is about getting to know one another and beginning to build a relationship based on trust, openness and respect.

What We'll Talk About

We'll begin by exploring what has brought you to therapy and what you're hoping counselling might offer you.

We'll also spend some time talking about how we'll work together, including confidentiality, practical arrangements and any questions you may have. This helps us create a safe foundation for our work together.

There is no pressure to share everything during our first meeting. You are free to share at your own pace, and we will work together to ensure you feel as comfortable as possible.

Your Session

Sessions last 50 minutes and are available:

  • Face-to-face
  • Online
  • Home visits (where appropriate)
  • Walk and Talk Therapy (where suitable)

Each session is your time. There are no interruptions, no agenda to follow and no expectation that you need to achieve anything by the end of the hour.

Sometimes sessions may feel emotional.

Sometimes reflective.

Sometimes surprisingly light.

Every person's journey is different.

What You Can Expect From Me

When you come to therapy with me, I will:

  • Welcome you with warmth and respect.
  • Listen without judgement.
  • Offer a safe and confidential space.
  • Work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
  • Be honest, genuine and compassionate.
  • Support you in exploring your thoughts and feelings rather than telling you what to do.
  • Respect your choices, values and life experiences.

I believe the most important part of therapy is the relationship we build together.

What I Won't Expect From You

You don't need to:

  • Have everything worked out.
  • Know exactly where to begin.
  • Talk about anything you're not ready to discuss.
  • Hide your emotions.
  • Be "good" at therapy.
  • Worry about saying the right thing.

You are welcome exactly as you are.

Sometimes Silence Is Part of Therapy

There may be moments when neither of us speaks.

Silence isn't something that needs to be filled. Sometimes it gives us space to reflect, notice our thoughts or simply take a breath.

There is no pressure to keep talking.

Often, some of the most meaningful moments happen in the quiet.

Between Sessions

It's common for thoughts and feelings to continue after a session has ended.

You might notice new perspectives, memories or emotions arising during the week. Some people find it helpful to jot these down in a notebook or journal, while others simply notice what comes up.

There is no homework unless we agree it would be helpful. Therapy isn't about completing tasks—it's about creating space for understanding and growth.

Questions Are Always Welcome

If something doesn't feel right, if you're unsure about the process or if you have questions about how we're working together, I encourage you to tell me.

Therapy works best when we can talk openly about the relationship as well as the difficulties that have brought you here.

A Gentle Reminder

Starting therapy doesn't mean you have to have all the answers.

It simply means you've chosen to give yourself the opportunity to pause, reflect and begin making sense of whatever life has placed in front of you.

We'll take it one conversation at a time.

"You don't have to know where you're going before you take the first step. Sometimes simply turning up is enough."
